Bovey Castle Team Voted Number One For Excellence

The dedicated events team at Bovey Castle, Devon – part of the luxury Eden Hotel Collection – has been named Team of the Year at the prestigious national miaList Awards 2015.

Paul Foster, Head Chef at Eden’s award-winning Mallory Court Hotel in Warwickshire, has also been commended in the Food and Beverage category.

The annual meetings industry event, supported by The Meetings Show UK, recognises individuals who inspire those around them, go above and beyond the call of duty and have a positive impact on their business. This is the first year that a team has also been rewarded.

Dozens of teams from across the country were nominated, with just four being short-listed by a panel of judges. The Bovey Castle events team was then chosen as number one for excellence in a public online vote, triumphing over London’s Barbican Centre, The Foresight Centre at the University of Liverpool, and the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.

All of the winners were recognised at a celebration lunch at the Park Plaza Riverbank on Monday September 28.

Jane Longhurst, Chief Executive of the MIA (Meetings Industry Association), said she was delighted by the high number and quality of the nominations – the most ever received since the miaList was conceived in 2011: “The fact that so many people have taken the time to nominate a colleague for all the hard work they do shows real passion, commitment and dedication from the industry as a whole,” she said.

“The miaList is a celebration of the good people who work tirelessly to raise standards and inspire those around them. We want to recognise these individuals who make a real difference to people’s lives through their enthusiasm and hard work.”

The Bovey Castle events team was nominated by the hotel’s General Manager, Greg Fehler, who described them as ‘extremely proficient, conscientious and customer focused’. He added: “They work together seamlessly and there is a real dedication to provide professional yet personalised advice on how best to enjoy the facilities and activities on offer at Bovey Castle.

“In my 35 years as a General Manager, I have not worked with a more competent team who enjoy the challenges that working at Bovey Castle can bring on a daily basis.”

Mallory Court’s Paul Foster was nominated by the hotel’s General Manager, Sarah Baker, who said: “Paul is passionate not only about the food he presents on the plate but also about Mallory.

“Paul has made the kitchen his own since arriving at Mallory Court in February 2014 and the team has thrived on learning new skills and techniques. He’s a great mentor and has enjoyed coaching not only his team but also those working front of house.

“He’s also a fantastic role model to the younger generation, getting them excited about joining our amazing industry,” added Sarah.
