The Somerset Dining Room at The Mount Somerset Hotel & Spa in Taunton has been awarded three rosettes by the AA for its culinary excellence. Restaurants with the coveted three rosettes are outstanding establishments that demand recognition well beyond their local area and just 10% of the AA’s restaurants achieve this level.
From its elevated and rural position, this impressive Regency country house hotel features wonderful views over Taunton Vale. The Somerset Dining Room serves delicious seasonal fare and head chef Mark Potts’ food ethos involves using prime ingredients – served with delicious garnishes - which are cooked to perfection to extract as much flavour as possible. The langoustine and pork belly, grilled and tartare with Granny Smith apple and crackling is one of Mark’s most popular dishes. Chicken breast, mushroom cannelloni, wild leeks and confit shallots is also a favourite and indulgent desserts include white chocolate and elderflower cheesecake with blueberry sorbet and a raspberry soufflé accompanied by Eton Mess and bay ice cream.
According to AA Senior Hotel & Restaurant inspector, Garry Baldwin MIH, “Mark’s cuisine is yet another reason to truly put the Mount Somerset on the map; a simplicity of flavours with the ultimate respect for ingredients from the local South West larder.
